Selous Game Reserve - Heading inland finds us in the renowned Selous Game Reserve, the largest game reserve in the world. Hosted by the luxurious Impala Lodge, set on the banks of the mighty Rufiji River, we were treated to game viewing that would leave a hardened traveler slack jawed in amazement. An excursion on the river in a motorboat designed around game viewing, adds a whole new dimension to an African safari and had us jabbering excitedly about how close we got to hippo and crocodile. Once back on dry land, it took a while before we calmed down sufficiently to take cognisance of the fact that we had also taken in some phenomenal bird life, spectacular riverine vegetation and a sunset that remains etched in our minds for ever. Impala Lodge’s accommodation consists of luxury safari tents, tastefully appointed and positioned right on the river bank. Lying on your king size bed, overlooking the mighty Rufiji river, does wonders for your soul.
