RIETFONTEIN OSTRICH PALACE VIDEO - ACCOMMODATION / OSTRICH FARM / BED AND BREAKFAST / COTTAGES - OUDTSHOORN - ROUTE 62 - WESTERN CAPE - SOUTH AFRICA

The Potgieter family established Rietfontein Ostrich Farm in 1879, and today the fifth generation Potgieters farms the giant birds among the dramatic Red Stone Hills. Rietfontein is the oldest operating ostrich farm in the world. Kobus and Elmarie Potgieter welcome visitors to Rietfontein, with its ornate Ostrich Palace built in 1909 for Kobus’s great grandmother. Accommodation is available in beautifully restored cottages, tastefully furnished, all with en suite bathrooms. Breakfast is served in the old barn and dinner is available on request. The chef prepares ostrich dishes as well as traditional country-style cuisine and local wines are served. Rietfontein offers ostrich tours and a curio shop specializing in ostrich products and local handcraft. There is plenty to do in the vicinity. It is an easy drive to the famous Cango Caves. Also nearby is the Swartberg Pass to the pretty town of Prince Albert, with its breathtaking views. Oudtshoorn, the capital of the ostrich world, is under an hour’s drive away. The Garden Route on the Indian Ocean coast is just over the mountains via the spectacular Outenique Pass. Rietfontein waits to welcome you into a world of vistas.
