Prince Albert is the gateway to the mighty Swartberg. This massive range forms the Southern edge of the African continental plate. Its tortured rock formations, thrusting high above the plains, bear timeless testimony to the ancient tectonic collisions of a world in the making. Here the Creator had fun. Onse Rus has been at the heart of Prince Albert since 1852, capturing its warm and friendly ambience under its thatched roof. Having evolved into a comfortable three star guesthouse, you’ll immediately feel at home as you slow down to the relaxed pace of country living. On arrival you are welcomed with tea and homemade chocolate cake and included in your stay is a full farmhouse breakfast, with fresh farm products from the local dairy. Each of the five en suite rooms offers their own special character, with private entrances and patios away from the main house. A sound night’s sleep awaits in comfy beds with crisp cotton and mohair blankets. For the adventurous Onse Rus offers tailor made trips to Gamkaskloof known as “Die Hel,” a secluded valley in the Swartberg. We depart in a 4x4 vehicle and stop for a light picnic break on the way. The spectacular mountain scenery tends to lengthen the traveling time, especially for those with an interest in photography and bird life. The day is spent exploring this isolated valley, barely long enough to gain an insight into a way of life long forgotten. Nestled at the foothills of the Swartberg is Vrisch Gewaagt. Here there is Time - time to appreciate the changing colours of the mountains, the mystery and magic of the veldt plants and the rustle of creatures who dwell there.
